L.A. bathhouses to remain open

Los Angeles--Under a settlement approved in July by the Los Angeles Superior Court, bathhouses there will be allowed to remain open under a set of guidelines developed by community educators and public health officials.

The agreement is the result of a lawsuit filed by Los Angeles District Attorney Ira Reiner and the county health department, that sought to close the Hollywood Spa and the Compound as a threat to the public health.

Boy Scouts are New Jersey's first case

New York--In the first case to be filed under New Jersey's recently adopted gay civil rights law, Lambda Legal Defense & Education Fund has brought suit against the Boy Scouts of America and the Monmouth, New Jersey Boy Scout Council for discrimination against a young gay Eagle Scout. The lawsuit is the latest of several cases across the country challenging the Boy Scouts' anti-gay discriminatory policy.

Two Nice Girls are breaking up

As they say, breaking up is hard to do, especially when it's Two Nice Girls. Original members Kathy Korniloff and Gretchen Phillips founded the band six years ago. Pam Barger and Meg Hentges joined Two Nice Girls three years ago. The split is amicable, and the band wants to venture out in different directions. Tour support would be wonderful, but the demise of the band

has nothing to do with the lack of a record label. The band has continued to tour and sell out shows across the U.S.

Two Nice Girls recently completed their final tour of the west coast in May. They will perform one last show in Austin in September and will record a live record from that show. New York based filmmakers, Francine Rzeznik and Zinka Benton have filmed a documentary on the Two Nice Girls 1992 U.S. tour. They will also be filming the Austin show in September. Out on the Road with Two Nice Girls will be released in 1993.

Advocate editor quits

Richard Rouilard resigned in July as editor in chief of the Advocate, following a dispute between him and the magazine's publisher, Niles Merton. Merton announced that senior editor Jeff Yarbrough would take over the post of editor in chief.

Yarbrough and Rouilard were responsible for the 25 year-old magazine's recent redesign to perfect-bound, four-color printing on glossy stock, a move that has helped push advertising revenues to record levels.

With circulation approaching 120,000, the Advocate is the world's most widelyread and oldest continuously published gay and lesbian magazine.

Three more get Victory nod

The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund has recommended three more openly gay candidates for funding by the network's members across the nation. The three are Texas judicial candidate Jerry Birdwell, Massachusetts Governor's Councillor candidate Steven Camara, and Jim Haas, a candidate for district director of the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART).

GAY PEOPLE'S CHRONICLE

teers registered hundreds of voters and passed out a large number of mail-in and change-of-address cards. We were fortunate to have been assisted by deputy registrars from neighboring counties, thereby extending the reach of our efforts. We also added a few new stick-ons, like LE'S LES, BIG FAG, and SAFE SEX SLUT to the politically correct dress code of the day. You can be sure we'll be at the We Are Family Picnic, once again registering partygoers to vote.

Rhonda Rivera spoke at the Stonewall dinner. She is with Stonewall vice president Keith Sutton, left, and John Nolan.

Just Show Up. That was the message that opened our very successful Annual Stonewall Pride Dinner. Over 120 supporters showed up at the dinner held in the Ambassador Room of Stouffer's Tower City Plaza Hotel. The keynote address was given by Rhonda Rivera, a long time activist in both Ohio and national issues.

Showing up is 90 percent of what Stonewall does. At the Pride march we arrived with fluorescent stick-ons shouting WE'RE HERE AND WE'RE QUEER, YO HOMO, LESBIAN AND PROUD and HOMOPHOBIA IS A SOCIAL DISEASE. Later, at the Pride Festival, we staffed our literature and voter registration table.

At Dancin' In the Streets we were asked to staff the first table inside the west entrance, in support of this year's Get Out and Vote theme. I am both proud and astonished to report that our members and volun-

Two more issues are being addressed by our active members: surveying and tabulating city, county, state and federal politicians on their voting records and attitudes toward gay, lesbian and bisexual concerns; and packaging our proposed addition of sexual orientation, religious creed and ethnicity to Cleveland's current ordinances regarding discrimination. Several City Council members have expressed strong support for updating these ordinances.

But we need your help. We need you to Just Show Up. As a member at our meetings the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:30 at the Center on West 29th. (We will not have a meeting on Labor Day, Sept. 7). As a volunteer to staff our tables. As a representative of our community at our meetings with City Council representatives. Call 281-9205 to volunteer.

If you are a paid member, thanks. We're grateful for your support. We haven't forgotten you. We're out here fighting for the rights of every gay, lesbian and bisexual person, whether they're out yet or not. With the Oregon and Colorado initiatives from the hard right, we need your show of support now, before it's too late.
